I study English literature and read too much. Concise reviews of the ridiculous miscellany of my reading choices. Sometimes also things I watch and listen to. But mostly read.

Carry On, Jeeves by P. G. Wodehouse
I'm not really a huge devotee of Wodehouse, since his stories are fun and funny but extremely formulaic, and so make for a better TV show than they do reading (I am in love with the 90s production). However, I just find it really comforting to slip into the world Wodehouse so hilariously and perfectly describes. And, in small doses, these stories really are delightfully witty, and so far-fetched that they are almost absurd. There's something almost of nonsense tradition in the way various characters (especially Jeeves) justify the most outrageous and ridiculous ideas in the most logical terms. Wodehouse's language and expressions are really so funny and this book really cheered me up. I was also surprised by how much I liked Bertie Wooster, because he knows he's a bit of an idiot, but I find his generosity to his friends and his blundering through old social traditions really endearing.
