Strange Meeting by Susan Hill

I have to say that I find Susan Hill's book underwhelming, they're very generic. This one seems like she just used every single element of a World War I novel, but since they've all been used before, I wasn't really impressed. Although a lot of this book is absolutely devastating to read, none of it is really new or startling. The characters were conventional (one introvert, one extrovert, sudden love), the situations were conventional (pointless death, mutilation, dead bodies everywhere), everything was too predictable. Overall, it's a good book, but just felt to me like it was written according to a formula, it ticked every box, but failed to impress.
