I study English literature and read too much. Concise reviews of the ridiculous miscellany of my reading choices. Sometimes also things I watch and listen to. But mostly read.

The Blue Moon by Laurence Housman
I think the best way I can describe this book is 'obscenely whimsical'. I don't think any normal person would actually like it, but I really enjoyed it, because I love weird late-Victorian things. It's a collection of slightly bizarre literary fairy tales, told in a very intricate, beautiful and simple style, sort of like Oscar Wilde's fairy tales (only not as good, sorry Laurence Housman). It was a really quick and enjoyable read, and I really adored the style, but I imagine it would be irritating for someone just casually reading it now. I also just found it really calming and nice, and I really just wanted to read more of these stories. They're really profoundly touching and elegant, and I think a lot of his stories could be used very well in anthologies both for children and adults.
