I study English literature and read too much. Concise reviews of the ridiculous miscellany of my reading choices. Sometimes also things I watch and listen to. But mostly read.

Last Tales by Isak Dinesen
I've obviously raved a lot about how much I love Isak Dinesen, but I wasn't as keen on this collection as the others. It's a collection of previously unpublished and sometimes unfinished stories, and I felt like they were all kind of underdone to various degrees. Usually her stories are beautifully complete, but a lot of these just sort of break off, or the endings are unsatisfying. It was sometimes difficult to keep track of the characters, it felt like some characters weren't really introduced properly, they just sort of appear with no explanation, and many parts I just thought dull. I still enjoyed it, the deliciously creepy atmosphere and magical style are still there, but I just didn't enjoy it as much as the other collections I've read by her. I found a lot of it confusing and convoluted (maybe I'm just stupid and it's too philosophical), and I was just left feeling cheated of a resolution or any sort of closure at all.
