I study English literature and read too much. Concise reviews of the ridiculous miscellany of my reading choices. Sometimes also things I watch and listen to. But mostly read.

Anecdotes of Destiny by Karen Blixen
I've mentioned before that I'm not big on short stories, but that's probably because no one can write them like Isak Dinesen. She's a true master of the form, and these are supremely gorgeous and enigmatic. The stories in this book reminded me of a kind of amazing combination of Hans Christian Andersen, Shakespeare, and Gothic novels. All of these stories have a fairy tale quality (repeating events, ritualistic actions, siblings, significant objects, etc.) and atmosphere, yet they are also incredibly unnerving, dark and twisted. They are absolutely wonderful treats, and I really can't praise Isak Dinesen highly enough, as usual. My favourite story was probably 'The Diver', but they are all wonderful beyond description.
