And Then There Were None (BBC miniseries, 2015)

If I must be honest, I decided to watch this for Aidan Turner's smouldering good looks, and was completely stunned by the production. This is a spectacular modern Gothic treat masterfully executed; the atmosphere is absolutely chilling, the acting top-notch and the direction wonderful. It's so deliciously terrifying and uncanny, every shot imbued with a sense of evil and menace. It's also rather violent (unfortunately I was watching it while trying to eat dinner), but it never feels excessive. It basically has all the components of a great horror movie, perfectly deployed. I don't remember the novel very well, but I feel like this series is much darker than the novel was. There's also sex, drinking, drugs, 1930s costumes and technology, and a creepy old house. What more can one ask for?
