I study English literature and read too much. Concise reviews of the ridiculous miscellany of my reading choices. Sometimes also things I watch and listen to. But mostly read.

A Phantom Lover by Vernon Lee
Another Victorian ghost novel (or rather novella), very much in the vein
of the Aesthetic movement. I especially enjoyed the language at the
beginning, the atmosphere Lee creates is wonderfully rich and decadent.
The whole thing reminded me a lot of Oscar Wilde and was really
delightful. The ending was a bit predictable, but the execution was
dramatic and fascinating. It's very hard to find works by Vernon Lee,
and I wish I could track down more of them, this was absolutely lovely.
Just what I want from a Victorian ghost story.
